WordPress is a free content management system that powers a large share of the world’s websites. With the WordPress tool in the hosting control panel you can install it without creating a database or uploading files yourself.
1. Start the installation
- Use One-click panel login from your hosting service (see The hosting control panel).
- Click Install in the WordPress section.
- Choose your domain and the installation directory. Leave the directory empty to run the site on the main address.
- Set an admin username, a strong password and an email address, and choose the site language.
- Confirm. Your site is ready in a few minutes.
2. Signing in to the dashboard
Sign in at https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin with the details you set during installation. The WordPress tool lists installed sites in one place; you can manage updates, security and backups there too.
3. First steps
- SSL: install the free certificate and switch the addresses under Settings › General to
https://(see Installing a free SSL certificate). - Permalinks: choose “Post name” under Settings › Permalinks.
- Updates: keep WordPress, themes and plugins up to date; delete the plugins and themes you don’t use.
- Admin username: avoid guessable names such as “admin”, and consider a security plugin that offers two-factor authentication.
- Backups: back up before major changes (see The hosting control panel).
4. Speed tips
- Use a caching plugin and compress images before uploading (WebP is ideal).
- Upgrade to a current PHP version from the control panel.
- Avoid unnecessary plugins; each one can add to page load time.
Common problems
- “Error establishing a database connection”: check the database name, user and password in
wp-config.php. - White screen: disable the plugin or theme you installed last by renaming its folder in Files.
- Memory limit errors: raise the memory limit in PHP settings.
